Mom interview ~ Mrs. Elizabeth Luparell

Mothers have taken over my blog this month - and they've brought a giveaway, so be sure to enter! Today Mrs. Elizabeth Luparell from Celia Breslin's book, Jasmine Moon is here with us.

We're so glad you could join us, Mrs. Luparell. Perhaps you could share with us what you see as the most challenging aspect of motherhood?

Oh my goodness, my dear, mothers face so many parenting challenges. When my three three Wolf shifter children were toddlers, for example, I wished I could clone myself to keep up with all of them, especially when they would run off in different directions in the forest around our home.

That would be challenging! Now, what would you say is your proudest mom moment?

Bless your heart for asking. My youngest child and only daughter, Lexi is marrying her childhood friend and soul mate, Jake. I’m so proud of her for following her heart and trusting in love.

My mom used to say “I’ve had it up to here!” and “Who do you think you are?” a lot. What is your go-to momism?

::chuckles:: “Take it outside, Luparells!” My children were so energetic, all day, every day.  I can’t tell you how much broken furniture and other household items we lost to their antics.

I can imagine! So tell us, what is the most valuable thing your mother taught you?

When your life feels out of control, when you feel like you’re hanging on by one, weak thread… Stop. Close your eyes. And breathe. It’s important to take small moments for yourself.

Sound advice! So tell us about your kids. Do they take after you at all?

I have three wonderful children, all adults now, and hopefully making me grandchildren very soon!  My eldest, Evan is in the technology business with his brother Ross. Their younger sister Lexi is a wonderful artist. I’d like to think they take after me a little bit. They have my eyes. Whiskey eyes, my husband says. My kids love the outdoors, as do I. As for their personalities, they’re as different as night and day, unique and special. Thanks for asking.

How about some This or That?

Bacon & eggs or cereal & milk?
Bacon and eggs. Wolf shifters require plentiful protein.

Themed party or meet for drinks?
Themed party.

Cosmopolitan or beer?
Guinness. And whiskey.

Mini-van or Cooper mini?
Pickup truck.

Home cooked or take out?
Home-cooked. Preferably by my gifted sister-in-law.

Paper plates or Fine China?
Both. Depends on the occasion, dear.

Thanks so much for being here, Mrs. Luparell! Here's more about the book, Jasmine Moon:

Tech mogul and workaholic wolf Evan Luparell has little time for distractions but takes a break for his brother’s wedding in South Dakota. When asked to escort another wedding attendee from the airport to Los Lobos, he agrees. Then he meets the curvy spitfire, and she ignores him.

Designer and wolf Mina Carver didn’t mean to be rude to the handsome, glowering man claiming to be her ride, but she was busy working. Now she must endure a ride to the Black Hills with the cranky but sexy dominant wolf. Unexpected mating energy sparks between them, but still—should she dismiss, or kiss him?

Kisses win and they agree upon a no-strings fling. But with each wedding activity throwing them together, and their powerful chemistry and mate compatibility complicating matters, can two workaholics truly have their fun then walk away?

My herofest is drawing to a close here on my blog, but not before we meet another hunk! Be sure to enter the giveaway & vote for your favorites, too! And now, here's Celia Breslin and her hero, Jake Marsden, from her book Under A Mating Moon.

Hi Everyone!

Nice to be back for another visit to Audra’s blog! I’ve brought Wolf shifter and Awesome Sauce DJ Jake Marsden with me today. He’s agreed to answer a few questions.

Celia:  Hi, Jake! Thanks for taking a break from your current DJ tour to join me chez Audra. First off, tell us: What’s your idea of the perfect date?

Jake:  I spend a lot of time in clubs, converted warehouses, and other performance venues, so when I’m off work, I like to spend time outdoors. I’m not much of a camper, so my perfect date would be dinner at a restaurant with outdoor seating, a conversation that didn’t involve talking about my work, a walk around town or the local park, then perhaps a soak in a hot tub, followed by… ::Jake shifts in his chair and shoots a crooked grin::

Celia:  Sounds lovely. What gift would you give your love for Valentine’s Day & why?

Jake:   I’m a DJ but also a classically trained pianist and composer, so I’d compose a song for my love. Music is the language of my heart, and a Valentine gift should always come from the heart.

Celia: Sounds perfect!  Speaking of perfection, what’s your greatest flaw?

Jake:  ::narrows his eyes::  I can hold a grudge for a very long time.

Celia: Yikes, remind me not to get on your bad side.  So then, what’s your greatest strength?

Jake: I’m an Alpha Wolf, so it’s in my nature to protect those who are weaker than myself.

Celia: You rock! Okay, last question… If they were to make a movie of your life, what genre would it be?

Jake: Since I’m a Wolf shifter, and one female has dominated my heart and thoughts for most of my life--even when we were apart--I’d have to say Paranormal Romance.

Celia:  Thanks for the chat, Jake. And on behalf of both of us, thank you Audra for hosting us today! Bye for now, everyone!

So glad to have you here! And now, more about Under A Mating Moon:

British Alpha wolf Jake Marsden spends his days among humans, pursuing a lucrative music career and avoiding his pack’s politics. When his current DJ tour takes him to the US, he stops in Los Lobos to visit family, and runs into the one Wolf he never wants to see again—the mate who rejected his claim.

While visiting her brother in Los Lobos, free-spirited Lexi Luparell is shocked to encounter the Wolf she’d denied when they were teens. Now she must face her guilt for the cruel way she spurned him all those years ago, make amends, and admit the truth. Jake was right all along—they’re meant to mate.

Lexi would love to explore the mate concept and her overwhelming attraction to virile, alpha Wolf Jake, but he wants nothing to do with her. How can she break down his defenses when she’s the reason he built them in the first place?

Jake dates only human women now. Lexi had her shot at being his mate, and she threw it away. But when her life is threatened, he may have to rethink his position and do whatever it takes to claim his one true mate.

Under A Mating Moon is #27 in a multi-author, shared world series: Black Hills Wolves, by Decadent Publishing.  It is a stand-alone read (no prior reading in series required).

Grab your crucifixes and silver bullets! The villains have arrived on my blog. Be sure to enter the giveaway below- 7 free ebooks, 3 e-comics and a $10 Amazon card!

Today our special guest is Dixon de Champagne from Celia Breslin's novel,  Haven.

Thanks for joining us, Dixon. Tell us, what is your ultimate goal?

::rides up on his motorcycle:: Hello luv, good to be back on your blog for another go ‘round. I do love an audience for my wicked machinations. ::grins, flashing fangs:: My goal is, as always, to torment the bloody hell out of The Warden. You may know him as Carina’s uncle Thomas. That pompous wanker wronged my family centuries ago. And now, it will be my pleasure to take away what he loves most in the world. That’s Carina, of course. ::revs his bike engine, silver eyes glowing:: I will own her, body and soul.

What do you see as your greatest obstacle?

Her mentor, the Executioner. That bloody tosser Jonas watches over her with the tenacity of a father wolf protecting its pup. But, just between you and me, luv… ::winks:: I have a plan to circumvent him….shh… ::presses a pale finger to his bloodred lips::

Pick an historical figure and compare yourself to him or her– how are you alike and different?

::chuckles:: Ah, pet, but I am a historical figure. Do you have any idea how many centuries I’ve lived? The wars I’ve fought? I suppose, if we must compare, I’d say, my former associate Rudianos, god of war worshipped by the Gauls. He was quite fond of decapitating his enemies. We are both driven and ruthless warriors. Our big difference: he has faded into memory, while I continue to thrive!

Name a song that would be played in the soundtrack of your life.

“This Corrosion,” by Sisters of Mercy.

Always a pleasure to have you with us, Mr. Dixon. And now, if you'd like to know more about Haven:

San Francisco nightclub owner Carina Tranquilli works hard, plays hard, and never allows the death of her parents and her twelve-year memory gap to get her down. But her life takes a left turn when a witch attacks her on her twenty-fifth birthday.

Three hauntingly familiar vampires emerge to reveal she possesses a latent power. To protect her from their enemies, they admit to wiping her memories clean and abandoning her as a child, but now they need her help. As she struggles to evade her new protectors and even newer enemies, she meets Alexander, an enigmatic, undead musician. Insta-lust flares, leaving her wanting more.

With evil’s minions hounding her every move, and everything she thought she knew turned on its head, Carina must harness her burgeoning power, unravel her vampire family’s web of deceit, and fight to have a love life...without getting killed in the process.

Winner - Grand Prize!

About the Author:

Celia Breslin here. I write urban fantasy and paranormal romance. Sometimes, I also write poetry. The offering included here is a short variation (written this month), of a longer poem from “Flow”, a collection of poems composed after the loss of my first child during the first trimester of my pregnancy several years ago. Love in all its varied forms is a popular theme in my poetry. Here, it’s motherly love…

The Poem:

Ritual for Lost Children
By Celia Breslin

Wrapped my heart
in smooth red cotton
tied with string

Placed it on the Lost Children’s altar
and breathed you free
to follow another path

More from Celia:

Home, family, and romantic love are key components in my paranormal stories. All three factor greatly in my Tranquilli Bloodline vampire series. The series heroine, nightclub owner Carina Tranquilli, works hard to make a happy home for herself while dealing with ongoing family drama and a slew of villains intent on ruining her happiness. Along the way, she meets her fated soul mate, undead musician Alexander.

Vampires, love, mayhem…Join Carina’s club!

A visit from Celia Breslin's Dixon...

Something wicked this way comes! It’s villain month here on my blog. I’ll be interviewing two antagonists each week. Today Dixon, the villain of Celia Breslin’s novel DESTINY, is my guest.

Thanks for joining us, Dixon. Tell us…

What is your ultimate goal?

::Dixon grins, flashing fangs::  Well luv, if I told you that, I’d have to… kidding! Nothing gives me greater pleasure than tormenting The Warden, also known as Carina’s uncle Thomas. And what better way to annoy the wanker than to take away what he loves most in this world.  That would be Carina, of course. ::leans forward, silver eyes glowing:: I came close to owning her months ago. You know what they say: if at first you don’t succeed...

What makes you so driven to accomplish this goal?

::Dixon’s expression darkens and he growls::  Ancient, bloody history. The Warden will pay dearly for his crimes against my family.

If you could choose anyone from the literary world as your partner in crime, who would you choose and why?

I quite admire the vampire Lothaire’s handiwork.  He generates such carnage with style and flair. ::Dixon nods:: Yes, his power rivals my own. It would prove a good match.

Describe yourself in three words or less.

 Clever, powerful, driven.

Here’s more information about Dixon and the urban fantasy romance novel, Destiny:

In HAVEN, San Francisco nightclub owner Carina Tranquilli survives a vicious attack by her vampire family’s longtime archenemies. Several weeks later, as she struggles with PTSD and survivor’s guilt, supervillain Dixon resurfaces and kidnaps two of her best friends. To save them, Carina must comply with the evil bastard’s unusual demands. The kicker? She must tell no one what she is up to.

Meanwhile, she has a new dance club to open for the preternatural community, a fated soul mate acting secretive and distant, and a sexy, new, undead friend who’d love to take Alexander’s place in her heart and bed.

Blackmailed, betrayed, tempted…sometimes destiny has a wicked sense of humor.

Interview with Celia Breslin #2

Break out the cauldrons and cobwebs, October is here and I’m interviewing authors of paranormal fiction. Today my guest is Celia Breslin, author of urban fantasy and paranormal romance. Thanks for stopping by again, Celia!

Hi Audra! Thanks for having me back for another visit. I like hanging at your blog. :-)

What’s your favorite scary movie of all time and why?

The Shining. It’s pretty much the creepiest movie ever.  I think the fact I’d
read the novel before I saw the movie significantly enhanced its creep-factor for me. Nightmare on Elm Street is good, too. What a brain scrambler!

If they were to make your book into a movie, which actors would you like to play the lead roles and why?

Haven would be a fun movie. We’d need actors in their mid 20s for Carina and Alexander, so I’d love the following actors and actresses to show up for a casting call:
For Carina – Elena Satine, Lilly Collins, and Giulia Elettra Gorietti
For Alexander – Ian Somerhalder and Kellan Lutz

What do you do to gear yourself up to write a really intense scene?

I usually listen to music.  For most fight scenes in Haven, I listened to The Prodigy’s Invaders Must Die.  For all of Vampire Code, I listened to Front Line Assembly’s Echogenetic.

Tell us about your latest book, Vampire Code, in 25 words or less.

When a naughty newbie vampire injures Carina, her mentor and protector Jonas The Executioner must punish the offender and his maker. Code Breakers beware.

THIS or THAT

American Werewolf in London or Teen Wolf?

American Werewolf in London

Fangs or claws?

Fangs all the way!

Wooden stakes or silver bullets?

Silver bullets. Because they don’t kill my vampires!

Black cats or flying bats?

Black cats

Where can we find out more about your books?

Interview with author Celia Breslin

2/13/2013

Since February is the month for love & valentines, I thought I’d invite
some romance writers to stop by my blog and share some of their stories. There will be a couple guest interviews each week, so be sure to catch them all! This week I’ve invited Celia Breslin, author of HAVEN, a romantic urban fantasy, to be my guest star. HAVEN releases this July from Burst Books (a Champagne Book Group imprint). Thanks for coming by, Celia!

Hi Audra, thanks for having me over to chat today.

What do you like most about writing a love story?

Ha, that’s easy - the love, of course! Real life has its ups and downs and so does a good love story. I enjoy sinking deep into my characters and riding their ups and downs and ultimately, I relish their happy ending. It’s also quite fun to experience the “first meet” with my hero and heroine, when they’re struck by that initial spark of attraction, along with the suspicion that “Uh-oh, this one is special. Important. A keeper...” I’ve been happily married for eighteen years so it’s nice to relive that honeymoon phase vicariously through my characters.  :-)

What is the most difficult part about writing for you?

I have more ideas than time to write. If only there were more hours in a day, or my body could survive on less sleep. ;-)

I was serenaded once. Okay, the song was “The Freaker’s Ball” and I was terrified I was going to end up on display in the guy’s wax museum after, but it was a serenade. What’s the most romantic thing anyone has ever done for you?

Hm, just one moment, eh? There are so many good moments with my husband spanning little things like mixed tapes when we were dating and love emails to grand gestures such as surprising me with a new laptop for Xmas this year. But I’d have to say the all-time greatest romantic moment was when he took me to a beautiful, secluded spot in Golden Gate Park and pledged his love for me. I pledged right back, of course!

If the main character in your latest novel were to buy his/her lover a gift for Valentine’s Day, what would it be?

Carina, the heroine of HAVEN, owns a dance club and her undead, fated soul mate Alexander is an accomplished musician. She would arrange a concert for him at her club, starring his favorite pianist.

What’s your latest novel about, in 25 words or less?

HAVEN: San Francisco nightclub owner discovers latent powers and makes peace with her vampire family, destiny and soul mate, with Team Evil in hot pursuit.

Where can we learn more about your books?

I write paranormal romance and urban fantasy with romantic elements about vampires, faeries, and assorted other sexy and mysterious creatures of the Otherworld. To learn more about my work, please surf on over to my Web site at
http://www.celiabreslin.com/

Thanks again, Audra, for having me visit your blog. And Happy Valentine’s Day everyone! :-)
