Lock up your valuables! The villains have arrived on my blog. Today we are joined by Karin Rita Gastreich's Mechnes, Prince of the Syrnte, from her novel High Maga.

Tell us, Mechnes, what is your ultimate goal?

World domination.

Along with that, I desire women, wine, and excellent music.

What do you see as your greatest obstacle?

On very rare occasions, my subordinates have proven inept, but that is always easily remedied.

In truth, I have found few obstacles in life. There are only new challenges to take on, and new lands to be conquered.

Pick an historical figure and compare yourself to him or her– how are you alike and different?

Genghis Khan. Both of us are great military commanders who united disparate kingdoms and tribes into a single empire. We differ in that I am better at what I do. I also can count on the powers of a dark sorceress; I don’t believe Genghis Khan had that luxury.

What would you say to the people of Moisehén who live in terror of your invading army?

I don’t know why the people of Moisehén resist our invasion. I offer them a great honor, making them part of the Syrnte Empire. Mine are a sophisticated people with a glorious history. Who would not want to share in our legacy?

Right - who doesn't love being conquered? Anyway, you mentioned the love of music earlier. Pick a song that would be played in the soundtrack of your life.

Any song, as long as it is interpreted by the lovely Adiana. Have you heard her play? She’s exquisite. I acquired her when we burned the town of Moehn. I’d call her one of my finest conquests on any campaign. Adiana has yet to appreciate her good fortune being under my protection, but she’ll come around soon enough. There is no greater honor for any woman than to be favored by a Syrnte Prince.

And now, more about High Maga:

Sisters in magic, Eolyn and Adiana seek to revive a millennial tradition once forbidden to women. When war strikes at the heart of the kingdom, their fledgling community of magas is destroyed; its members killed, captured or scattered.

In hopes of defending her people, Eolyn tries to escape the occupied province and deliver to King Akmael a weapon that might secure their victory. Trapped by the invading army, Adiana is taken prisoner and placed at the mercy of the ruthless Prince Mechnes.

Even as their world is torn asunder, Eolyn and Adiana cling to a common dream. Courage and perseverance guide them toward a future where the Daughters of Aithne will flourish in a world set free from the violence of men.

“War propels the book forward, and the characters are at their best when the events engulfing them are at their worst.” –Publishers Weekly

“A must read for any fantasy lover.” -Amazon Customer Review
